Business Lessons from 6 Inches of Snow????

Business Lessons from 6 Inches of Snow????

This morning, I stepped outside to a world covered in six inches of fresh snow. Everything looked smooth, untouched—like a fresh start.

But as I walked, I stumbled. Hard.

Beneath that perfect, even-looking surface were deep ruts hidden underneath. I knew where they were, so I tried to change course. But in shifting my path, I lost my footing—and had to go back to where I knew it was flat.

And it hit me: business is the same way.

So many entrepreneurs follow the same tracks, believing they’re on solid ground—until they trip. The reality? What works for one person doesn’t always work for another. But on the flip side, sometimes trying to blaze a new trail too soon can make things harder than they need to be.

The Balance: Following vs. Pivoting

?? Some paths are worth following—until they’re not. There’s value in learning from those who’ve gone before you. No need to reinvent the wheel… unless the wheel isn’t rolling for you. But just because someone else carved a path doesn’t mean it’s your path. If you’re forcing something that doesn’t align, it might be time to reassess.

?? Deviating at the wrong time can trip you up. Making a change just for the sake of change isn’t always the right move. Sometimes, sticking with what’s steady gives you the stability to find a better path forward. The challenge is recognizing whether you’re pivoting strategically or just reacting out of frustration, doubt, or impatience.

?? The key is knowing when to follow and when to forge your own way. Growth happens when you develop the ability to recognize when you’re in the right lane—just needing minor adjustments—versus when you actually need a full pivot. The strongest entrepreneurs don’t just follow or rebel—they adapt.

That’s the real work—the awareness to recognize when you need to pivot and when you just need to adjust.

So, here’s my question for you: Where in your business are you shifting paths—or realizing you need to?

Drop a comment—I’d love to hear how you navigate your own journey.
