Objective:

This course aims to provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to enter the field of Business Intelligence (BI) and understand its crucial role in supporting business decisions. The course is designed for beginners with little or no prior BI experience.

Program:

Module 1: Introduction to Business Intelligence

Module 2: Database Fundamentals

Module 3: Data Warehousing

  • Introduction to Data Warehousing: Knowing the key concepts of data warehousing and its role in BI.
  • Data Warehouse Architecture: Exploring the different data warehouse architectures and key components.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Processes: Understanding the steps to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the data warehouse.

Module 4: BI Tools and Technologies

  • Overview of BI Tools: Exploring the major BI tools and technologies (Tableau, Power BI, QlikView) and their functionalities.
  • Data Visualization: Learning to create effective data visualizations to communicate information clearly and concisely.
  • Report Creation: Generating BI reports using reporting tools to present analysis and key metrics.

Module 5: Data Analysis

  • Data Analysis Techniques: Applying basic statistical analysis techniques to describe and analyze data.
  • Data Mining and Machine Learning for BI: Introducing the concepts of data mining and machine learning and their potential in BI.
  • Predictive Modeling: Learning to build simple predictive models to forecast future trends or events.

Module 6: BI Project Management

  • BI Project Management Methodologies: Knowing project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and their adaptation to BI projects.
  • BI Project Planning and Monitoring: Learning to plan, monitor, and manage the activities of a BI project.
  • Problem-solving and Risk Management: Developing strategies to address common problems and manage risks in BI projects.

Module 7: Data Governance

  • Data Governance Principles: Understanding the importance of data governance to ensure data quality, security, and integrity.
  • Data Security and Compliance: Implementing security measures to protect sensitive data and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Data Management Best Practices: Adopting best practices for effective management of enterprise data.

Teaching Methodology:

The course combines frontal lessons, practical exercises, labs, and case studies.

  • Frontal lessons will present the theoretical concepts and fundamental BI methodologies.
  • Practical exercises will allow participants to apply the acquired knowledge to realistic scenarios.
  • Labs will enable participants to experiment with BI tools and technologies.
