The Business of Healthcare: General Misconceptions

The Business of Healthcare: General Misconceptions

1. "It's all about the money" - While payers and providers will always fight for their share of the #healthcare dollar, industry disruptors and educated consumers know it's all about #value

2. "#Healthinsurance companies insure..." - Actually, less and less. Most of today's commercial enrollees are covered by #healthbenefit plans where employers take the insurance risk and insurers function primarily as an administrator.

3. "Quality is too hard to measure" - It may not be perfect, but there is a wealth of data out there if you know where to look, and it is quite revealing.

4. "Value-based programs don't work - Not true, but success IS highly dependent on effective program design and true provider engagement

5. "It's all about the #relationship" - There was a time when #employers#unions, etc. were fiercely loyal to their insurance partners. In today's world, price and performance guarantees are key.
