Business Health: Navigating Stress in Today's Economy

Okay, business Leaders everywhere, you need to listen to this because we can all be stressed. We can have anxiety, and most of us are trying to find new ways to work smarter and better at work, especially in the new economy where generative AI is really overpowering and necessitating a reevaluation of how we do things. However, we know that most businesses and leaders are getting this wrong, and this is causing a lot of stress in their global offices.
I, myself, want a backseat, kind of an easy job of navigating multiple different news publications that I watch and analyze online so I can give you the best insights. This includes Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, BBC News, the wider spectrum of all publications, and course, new research into large language models, which is currently my forte. But I would say to you, the notion of stress is always going to be there, and it's really about understanding your emotions as a business leader because, at the end of the day, the job of a business leader is to embrace the stress, process it, analyze it, and be there for their colleagues.
We can't always get this right because, at the end of the day, stress is everywhere; it's life. It's one of the core emotions we have as humans. So, my contextual argument in today's Empathy Leadership magazine is to say to you, let's take a step back. Let's sit down. Some of you right here on LinkedIn are going to feel very stressed today, and we're only Tuesday, working on a project, perhaps you've got to deliver a presentation, or perhaps you're trying to go for a promotion or find a new career.
And we know, for instance, that even my particular role I've kind of just created because I needed the brand to create the research role I had from Magie . An AI researcher can expect to earn between 70 to 150k right now on LinkedIn, which is pretty good. However, when I went into looked at all these different job descriptions today, some of them are so tempting to apply for. I mean, I'll never get these jobs. I don't want them, in all fairness. I'd rather be humble and be kind, as the song says from Tim McGraw.
And I say to you, look, at the way that we are looking at jobs today and the involvement of how stress perceives artificial intelligence and vice versa. So, I'm talking about EQ and AI put together is the notion that, as Elon Musk is absolutely on the money on this, we might not be able to have a necessity to have a job in the future because AI will do pretty much every single task a human can do. And I'm afraid to say, that although companies are failing in terms of automation, automation is already here. I can see I've looked a lot of data on this. I look at trends, and I'm telling you, automation is coming, and it's already here. You just don't see it; it's not raw in your face yet. But if you look under the surface, if you analyze stuff, it's already up now. This is scaring a lot of people and causing stress and anxiety.
But if you look at it from a different perspective and you say to yourself, you know what, I know that there's automation coming, but this gives me more time so maybe you can, you know, work three days per week instead of the other days. Your incomes are going to change dramatically. So, we find ourselves in a situation reminiscent of the past, now facing a period of deglobalization triggered by the advent of AI. This shift is driven by markets that have become excessively large and prevailing greed, mirroring the conditions that led to the banking crisis. So yeah, 2008 was a bad time for a lot of people. We made that system ourselves. If we let one PLC company fall down now, it will probably collapse the financial market, causing even worse problems in 2008. And the government came in then. I don`t think world the US Government would have the same intentions again.
That's for the US economy, by the way, the world's biggest economy. But you and I, the grunt soldiers, as it were, who are working on the ground trying to create new systems, technologies, motherhood, fatherhood, friendship, marriage, love, hate, pain, suffering, whatever it is in life that you're going through, or you're creating, stress overrides that and underlines it.
And the best way forward, really, is to slow down the thoughts, slow down your thought processes as a business leader, take time to move away from social media, take your breaks, take screen breaks. Today, I did a complete reverse of my normal schedule, which I merged with GPT-4, and now I changed it. I ripped it all up, and I wasn't happy with it. I felt it was pushing me too much. And it was so, to me, I'm more productive in the morning, less in the evening, etcetera, etcetera. And I thought, you know what, I just want to do one article per day and be done with it. So that's all I'm doing. I'm writing one article per day. I'll get my random posts I do on LinkedIn and TikTok, but I'm not searching for investment any more because I'm done with that strategy.
I do think corporations, the actual market, is going to change significantly through the power of artificial intelligence that affects multiple industries. Why am I gonna pay thousands of pounds to go on a course when I can go to GPT-4? It might not give me the whole truth, but it will give me some indication about a different subject. And if I wanted to, I could spin it off into a course. I could sell it, but what's the point because others are already selling those courses? And you know what, I'm the guy that puts out free content. That's all I wanna do, minus my new advertising services in this magazine, which probably won't take off in honesty. I don't expect them to, but it's an offer that I'm making.
And I've never been one for money. I don't care too much for wealth and riches. What I do care about is helping people manage their stress and anxiety because I have stress. I've been stressed recently trying to work out my business, what kind of Business Model should I design and have?
A lot of people push forward on performance marketing. I get that, paid ads. And this magazine might be very good in the future for paid ads. I don't know; it's an experiment. It might not work. I might not get any clients, but you know what, I'm putting my hand, and heart on the table and inviting people at a cost. It's not free. I've done too many free deals recently, and that time is over.
So if you're one of those lucky ones, and I'm still gonna produce free content, hence this actual article, but if you wanna get real, you know, awareness, I've got a lot of leverage on LinkedIn. And somebody asked me today, Steve, what does that mean? I broke it down for him, and I said to him, look, at the end of the day, I grew my thought leadership here on LinkedIn. Five years ago, I started to share articles, white papers. Now, I'm in a position to write my own white papers at scale and volume, not because I get millions of views but because people trust and respect me. And I think you have to earn that over time.

Whether I choose to write with GPT-4 or write my own articles, you probably will never be able to tell. You may, you may not. If you follow me for a while, you'll be able to see a change in writing. And I'll try to reflect that back into the relation of stress. We as business leaders, thought leaders, or any kind of leader, even a father or a mother, don't really understand how stress works in a basic core, and we need to because we are angrier than ever. I went to the gym today, and I saw someone who goes to the gym and gave me the most evil look I've seen in a while. And I think to myself, we're so angry with each other, US men particularly, and we want to hurt each other.
The world has two wars in Europe. So, is it not time that we have some peace measurement between us? Do we hate each other so much that we can't say hello to each other because we go to the same gym? And I think to myself, the stress we have in this world at the moment is gonna get 100 times worse, sadly. Global suicide, which is my campaign through my brand Healthy Career Nurses to lower, is gonna get worse and worse and worse, even with artificial intelligence. I don't think I stand a chance, but I'm gonna go for it. I'm gonna go for broke. I'm gonna try and put out my campaign, try and put out as many good videos as possible. At the moment, no one has stepped forward and wants to help me. We're all in it for ourselves, it seems in this world, and even on LinkedIn, I see an utmost lot of selfishness because people wanna do brand deals and they wanna sell B2B.
But what they don't wanna do is collaborate. And I do see some fantastic stories, and not to say LinkedIn is not a nice place to collaborate, but I've been on this platform for five years. I never really asked for anything from anybody, and I don't like direct messaging.
I mainly just send out my thought leadership. But for once, I'm going to put up my services again. I'll keep changing it, and let's see how the dice rolls. But for most of us, we're still in a stress zone, including me a little bit, not so much today, I feel good. And I'm only voice typing this article today because I'm not doing as much work as I used to. I have to slow down a little bit because I've got epilepsy, and I can tell my anxiety is getting a bit higher than what it usually is. It's getting to the point where I need to change things up because otherwise, I could have a seizure. So, I know my measures, I know my safety zone, and I think that's one of the fundamental problems we have in business leadership today: we don't know our safety zone. We push past because we got so much pressure about creating business wealth, building up new innovations, which is important. I can talk about innovation all day long, but equally, I'd rather share my wisdom on emotional intelligence and mental well-being to help people manage their stress.
If you want to talk to me about innovation, direct message me, um, but don't pitch to me because I can't stand it, in all honesty. If you want to check in with me, say, "Hello Steve, how are you doing? Do you want some help today?" I welcome that, but I'll be honest, I'm sick and tired of being seen as either an influencer or somebody's got bundles of money or capital because I haven't, and I don't want to put you off doing business with me, but I say to you, look, we need to manage our stress and anxiety in a way that's comfortable for us, be there for our family and friends, make new friends which I'm not the best at, to be honest, because I live a lonely life, um, upon this platform of LinkedIn and other socials, um, but I thank God for, I have got a roof over my head, and I thank you for reading this article today.
And I say to you, look, I'm with you if you want to get better in health, but I'm not with you if you want to have greed in wealth. Thank you.
