Business Founders Not Active on LinkedIn

Business Founders Not Active on LinkedIn

Lately, I've seen chatter on LinkedIn from founders and business leaders who haven't been using LinkedIn consistently over the years.

They are frustrated with themselves for not seeing the true value in leveraging LinkedIn earlier.

It's true, LinkedIn is a fabulous tool for growing your Personal Brand and being a thought leader.

Many leaders are bemoaning their lack of interaction on LinkedIn over the years.

Especially their lack of consistently using it and being thoughtful about how to use LinkedIn to truly make a difference for their company.

Benefits to your Company if Founder is a Thought Leader

Data shows that founders who position themselves as thought leaders truly make a difference for the overall success of the company.

There are many benefits to your company if you're consistent with a solid thought leadership message.

Some benefits include:

?? Connect with your customers deeper

?? Stronger vendor relations

?? Helps with securing funding

?? Strengthens company culture

?? Use your reputation building time wisely

?? ... and so much more!

I hope the point about being consistent stood out to you... as a Founder, the consistency of your thought leadership is what will make a difference in the long haul. So, no more false starts with using LinkedIn, otherwise you won't get the impact on your business, culture, market share, etc. that you want to have.

Your Company's Brand

Remember, your company has it's own brand. And the company brand is different than who you are.

As I mentioned in another blog about Personal Brands of business owners, yes you did an awesome job in starting the company. Yes, your idea - or how you gathered key people - is what got the business started. That's how you have infused yourself in the business. Which is wonderful and amazing, and you should be proud of how you've made a difference in the world because of the services that your business is offering!

Remember that the business has its own brand. If you sold the business tomorrow, the next business leader will lead from their Personal Brand... while the brand of the business stays the same.

Think of major brands - when they have a business leader change, it doesn't change the brand of the company. Yes, the new business leader will operate from their Personal Brand. (At least I assume they know their Personal Brand... and the board who selected the new CEO better well know the Personal Brand of the new leader!) That's why solid business brands can evolve over time as they have different business leaders.

Moving Forward with Business Founder Thought Leadership

The past is gone. There's no getting back that time.

So today, instead of bemoaning the lack of using LinkedIn as a Founder, here are 3 things to take into consideration if you're ready to become a thought leader:

1. Use LinkedIn, IF you're ready to really use.

2. Don't use LinkedIn until you're FIRST clear on your Personal Brand

3. Answer this question: Am I ready to start being a thought leader on LinkedIn?

Knowing your Personal Brand as Business Owner

If you want to be a thought leader and make a bigger impact on the business, please be clear on your Personal Brand before starting to regularly post on LinkedIn. Clarity and strategy will help to reduce the friction for you to become the thought leader that you want to be.

A lack of clarity on your Personal Brand will likely add to more noise and chaos in the online world.

Don't add to the noise, rather have a clear plan for how you want to be a thought leader.
