Business as a Force for Good
Enrique Hank Feldman
Public Speaker, Brain/Mental Fitness, Sustainability, & Executive Coach, Innovation Consultant
Ever since I was a young kid, I was immersed in the world of Music and Business. With music I studied instruments, performed, composed and I still do as an active composer, conductor, and performing artist.
I would also go with my dad on the weekends and help him lift tile boxes, bricks and much more. What I remember in between all the carrying of heavy boxes, was how he took the time to speak to every client with the same level of respect and interest. From a little old grandma who was buying one metal mini-blind to a home owner spending a small fortune on a renovation. No matter the amount being spent, his energy and authentic connection was the same with each client. Really, his clients felt like long lost family members to me. I thought that was so cool.
My dad talked about Arnold Belinsky, his mentor, and how much he learned from that individual. As I look at my own journey, I realize I have had many potent mentors, and in different areas of life. Without exception, they all encouraged me to empower myself to the point of being able to mentor myself. This has stuck with me.
I have two great kids. My daughter, Sam and my son, Nick.
In addition to our parent/child relationship which is outstanding, we are also friends and colleagues. My daughter and I have created a series of children's books together called "Sam the Ant". Book 4 of the series just came out, and we are in business together doing well... AND, doing good things for our community! My son came up with the idea for a new kind of catering service that focuses on fantastic Mexican food with a Cuban twist, that is all non-GMO, hormone-free and organic. I'm really enjoying being his chef and recipe guru. His idea was to impact the food "desert" areas in our community, in addition to catering events, and it's working!
As someone who is an Artist and educator, who has embraced entrepreneurship, I realize that a large part of my success is connected to the fact that I treat entrepreneurship and business in general, in the same way I treat myself and life as an Artist and Educator. What would your community and your business look like if you embraced the perspective of the artistic process? To find out more about this topic, check out a recent blog of mine.
May you all experience a joy filled holiday season!
