Tobias Dieler publishes new article on Pledgeability and Bank Lending Technology in the Journal of Corporate Finance

Tobias Dieler ’s research, published in the Journal of Corporate Finance, explores how expanding eligible collateral to include movable assets affects different lending technologies. The study finds that transactional banks (T-banks), which rely on hard data, benefit from increased loan volume and profitability, while relationship banks (R-banks), which use customer relationships, see a decline in interest income but offset it with higher non-interest income.

The findings suggest that the reform benefits small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by enabling secured loans, but intensifies competition between T-banks and R-banks, with T-banks gaining an advantage due to their superior collateral screening capabilities.

Optimal Dynamic Advertising Policy with Short-Term and Long-Term Evolution of Consumer Awareness Considered

The study by Professor Zhengrui Jiang examines how advertising impacts consumer awareness and proposes an optimal strategy for monopolistic firms launching new products. Using memory consolidation theory, it models awareness as a combination of short- and long-term effects. The research shows that optimal advertising expenditure follows a U-shaped or inverted U-shaped curve depending on consumer retention speed. These findings offer valuable insights for firms on budget allocation to maximise profits and maintain awareness.
