How would you run a 24*7 support team if the whole facility is submerged in water?

1- Invest in DR

2- Move resources before the impact

3- Inform and consult with appropriate stakeholders

4- All of the above

The question is tricky, isn't it?

So lets talk about the picture. These are two highway just like you see near I35 and US290 intersection. If you are in Austin, connecting to these roads is easy. Half of the city go through these all the time.

The roads(in picture) are dipped in water from both sides. Those who came on highway are stuck. Those who were in hurry, may got some water in their vehicle. Some planned better but stuck at airport as runway is also under water.

Almost every organization in this region was stuck for 4 days. Could we have planned this better? May be not as water claimed its area. It was water before there, where it was water on Dec 2nd 2015.

There is a term called 100 year flood plain. It explains that the area has a risk flooding once in 100 year at least. Great concept and respect to nature.

The above link will explain another natural disaster. Nature claimed its turf.

Conclusion may suggest that if you need to run 24*7 support in any place of the world....You have to plan for alternate. However your planning shouldn't delay the execution as it might not give enough time to execute alternate.

Be agile, run for best and keep enough time to execute backup plan.

Move resources quickly as only eyes on the ground can save the show.

Be humble and be kind. Life is given on lease, lets not try to register it for money.
