The Business Case for Mentoring

The Business Case for Mentoring

Did you know that mentoring programs can do more than boost career progression?

We know the impact a good mentor can have:?

  • More empowered and impactful individuals

  • Higher retention rates
  • Higher promotion rates

Those who have mentors see a lot of benefits.?

Yet, according to a Forbes article, only 37% of professionals have a mentor.

This means there are still a whole lot of people out there who aren't benefiting from this type of relationship.??

Considerations for Learning and Development

How do we know when to create a mentoring program?

And if we look at the needs and determine we should create one, how do we create the buy-in we need for it?

That's what we're exploring on episode 119 of the podcast with Neil John Cunningham .

Neil has spent the last 15 years working in L&D.

Neil is also a board member for The Learning Network, a learning community interest company that aims to bring together L&D folks from across all disciplines. ?Neil is jointly responsible for ensuring the success of The Learning Network's mentoring program.

And he's sharing some of his lessons and insights with us in this week's episode of Learning for Good.

Building the Business Case for Mentoring

Neil shares 3 ways to build the business case for a mentoring program in your organization:

?? Identify the need.

?? Start with a pilot to test your idea.

?? Collect and use the data to tell the story.

Whether your goal is talent retention, stronger leadership pipelines, or simply better communication across teams, mentoring programs are a low-cost, high-impact solution.

To learn more about the value of mentoring from a business perspective, tune into episode 119 of Learning For Good.
