The role of Human Resource (HR) has evolved significantly. Once primarily focused on transactional tasks such as payroll and administrative duties, HR has transformed to become a strategic enabler for organisations to grow and achieve their goals. Mandom Corporation Singapore, a Japanese multinational corporation specialising in distribution of consumer products, faced difficulties in hiring, talent management and process inefficiencies. To address these issues, they sought expert help to redesign and increase the value contribution of their HR Executive role through Workforce Singapore’s Support for Job Redesign under Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG-JR).
The job redesign project provided Mandom with a comprehensive understanding of the current workforce landscape, offering insights into what potential hires looked out for and current employees’ motivations to continue working for Mandom. Armed with this knowledge, Mandom was able to implement more targeted initiatives to improve recruitment and retention efforts. The project fleshed out competency frameworks for various departments that highlighted career pathways within the organisation. The job redesign project also helped Mandom review existing talent management and succession planning frameworks and recommend areas of improvement (e.g. talent identification criteria).
Ms Sarah Lee, Senior HR and Admin Executive is now supporting the implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) among departments undergoing job redesign, in addition to conducting salary benchmarking to ensure market competitiveness. This means she now spends less time performing administrative HR tasks and more time on value-added work. “The refreshed job scope has enabled me to learn new skills and take on a bigger role that better supports my colleagues,” said Ms Lee.
