Here's a few things to think about for the next time you design your business cards…
Last year I attended a huge number of business networking events, and so I compiled a few tips that I’ve found to be really helpful in getting the most out of your business cards.
Tip 1:
LEAVE A GOOD AMOUNT OF WHITE SPACE ON YOUR CARDS.
Leaving white/blank space means people can write notes on your cards about what you talked about, something about you, and how you can help each other etc.
Tip 2:
ADD A HEADSHOT PHOTO.
If you’re at all like me, you go to a networking event, talk to loads of people, collect a load of business cards, then get home and you can’t remember who on earth a lot of them were or what they even looked like.
People are a lot more likely to do business with you if they actually remember you!
Putting a good photo of yourself on your business cards will instantly make people remember you, and therefore you’re more likely to do business with the people you gave your card too.
Tip 3:
PUT YOUR NAME IN LARGE FONT.
This is another tactic to help people remember you. After having a photo of yourself on your cards, having your name in a large font will also help people remember, well, your name!
Plus, if they forget or didn’t quite catch your name, by handing them one of your cards at the end of the conversation they won’t feel awkward in having to look closely at the card to find it.
Tip 4:
BE SIMPLE AND CLEAR WITH YOUR CONTACT DETAILS.
This is all about making things easy for the other person to know who you are, what you do, and how to contact you.
Don’t use any special fonts, just keep it simple and clean looking so the brain can process the information quickly and easily.
Tip 5:
PRINT YOUR BUSINESS CARDS ON THICK HIGH QUALITY PAPER WITH A MATTE FINISH, NOT GLOSS!
This makes them feel expensive and gives a good first impression of your business too. Having a flimsy business card is like having a limp handshake (not good)!
Also, having them in a matte finish rather than gloss means that every pen will work on them for when people come to write on them (see tip number 1)!
Tip 6:
ALWAYS HAVE CARDS ON YOU AND GIVE THEM OUT!
This is the final tip, and that’s to always have business cards on you. - In the car, at the gym (amazing place to network by the way), in your wallet, behind your phone cover, no excuses!
If you talk to someone about what you do, you need to be able to give them a card, so do it!!
I hope you found that helpful? I’m sure a lot of you have other tips you could add, so please do in the comment below!
