ZEV mandate could backfire, industry warns
The UK Government’s ZEV mandate is at risk of accidentally harming the country’s EV transition, MPs have been told.
Addressing a House of Commons Transport Committee session, BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said the mandate needed to be applied with some flexibility, while Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) head of technology and innovation David Wong spoke of an imbalance that had been created between supply and demand.
Switch enters the vehicle rental market
A new vehicle rental brand is launching with a focus on adaptability. Switch is being introduced as an independent business by Scot Group, which operates the Thrifty brand in the UK. Switch is offering a range of flexible rental options, including short term, long term and flexi-rental, with further services coming in line with market requirements.
Scot Group managing director Martin Wilson told?Business Car?that the decision to introduce a new brand was motivated by a need for agility to adapt to different business needs.
Business Car Awards 2024 entries close in one month
There is now only one month to go until the entry deadline for the Business Car Awards 2024.
The closing date for entries is 5 July. The prizes will be handed out at an awards ceremony at the Hilton London Bankside, on Thursday 19 September.
Some fleet car demand shifting from EVs to PHEVs, data shows

The start of 2024 has seen a decline in the share of new fleet registrations accounted for by pure EVs, but an increase for plug-in hybrids, according to cap hpi.
The data firm said the share of the fleet car market taken by EVs for the first four months of the year was 38.3%, down from 50% for the same period last year. In contrast, the fleet market share taken by PHEVs has risen from 14.1% to 24.5%.
