Business Boost Academy is a platform designed specifically for small business owners to learn, feel supported, have access to expert advice and be part of a community.

What has inspired this?

A few things really. Firstly the government - on the one hand we are told that we are the reason the economy was able to bounce back from the pandemic, then on the other hand a budget comes along that drastically impacts us and our world. So, I believe we have to work and collaborate together to support each other rather than fall victim to any external influences.

Then there is the lack of genuine support for small business owners. We are the forgotten often disregarded segment of the business community - when in fact the there are 5.45 million businesses in the UK with less than 50 employees and 1.1 million with 10 or less employees. In my day-to-day work I see and hear about this lack of support all the time. Growth hubs and LEPs do their best, they set up programmes and then the funding gets pulled. In reality the support just isn't there - and if you want to get additional support for your business, the cost can often be prohibitive and the budget is often just not there.

When you start off in business no-one actually teaches you how to run a business, all too often there is no-one is there to support you and there is no-one to keep you accountable which this can leave you feeling isolated as there isn't really a community for people like you.

Basically, running your own business can be a pretty isolating and humbling existence.

So I wanted to set something up that addresses all of these issues - and Business Boost Academy does that.

Our Five Pillars

Like I said no-one teaches you how to run a business, so learning essential business skills to help you manage, run and grow your business is really important.

There is no point in learning if you're not implementing that learning. In my experience people often need support to help them do that implementation - so we have put the support in there to help make that happen.

Procrastination is often the curse of the small business owner - but when there is accountability to others it gives you a reason, for example, to stop "death scrolling" on social media and crack on with getting things done.

Building a community is essential - you are not alone (even though most people believe they are). Networking with likeminded individuals creates that sense of community, trust, support and building relationships (and you might even generate some business as well!).

Finally this is about growth. Growth in your own personal development which ultimately leads to growth in your business.

What is Business Boost Academy offering?

We have created a platform where you'll have 24/7 access to business training. Lessons will continue to be added as time goes on but they currently sit in three themed areas - Planning your Business, Growing your Business and Running your Business.

We have a list of 17 Experts. All are experts in different areas of business who will be running webinars and podcasts.

We have a community forum where you can ask questions, get support, share social posts and build relationships.

There are live drop-in coaching sessions each week where you can ask specific questions that are pertinent to your business and get answers in real time - and if we can't answer those questions, you'll be signposted to an expert that can answer it.

Finally we are running regular networking events where members can get to know each other, build relationships and hopefully do some business together as well.
