Basingstoke and Deane Workforce Development Grant Scheme
The Basingstoke and Deane Workforce Development Grant Scheme provides funding to local micro businesses and small to medium sized enterprises to invest in their workforce, equipping employees with new skills and knowledge to support business growth and organisational resilience as well as supporting the professional development of employees.
The scheme?is open to any micro business or SME which is trading in and has a physical presence within the borough of Basingstoke and Deane.

New online training launched for small businesses
The Department for Business and Trade has launched a free online course with practical tips and resources for leaders of small business.?
Management essentials is the latest addition to the Help to Grow toolkit,?supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
The course is suited for leaders of newer or smaller SMEs, or those who are looking to explore the principles of business growth and management.?

Basingstoke and Deane Apprenticeship Business Fund
The Basingstoke and Deane Apprenticeship Business Fund aims to support any micro business or small to medium sized enterprise (SME) to access local talent through an apprenticeship.
Eligible businesses can apply for grants of £5,000 per apprentice to support with the costs of recruiting and retaining a new apprentice. Businesses can apply for funding for up to three new apprenticeships under the scheme which has a rolling deadline.

The fund provides funding to eligible businesses to cover the costs of recruiting and retaining a new apprentice including job-specific equipment, uniforms, and recruitment costs. Eligible businesses will need to demonstrate the business need for the apprenticeship and how recruiting a new apprentice will support business growth.

Changes to apprenticeship funding
The government has recently announced new apprenticeship measures:
From 1 April, SME employers who do not pay the levy no longer have to contribute to the cost of apprenticeship training for 16–21-year-olds. Government is fully funding the training costs for these individuals.
From 6 April, levy-paying employers can transfer up to 50% of their funds to support apprenticeships in other businesses, double the current 25%.
