Business and Babies

Business and Babies

The biggest/hardest/most rewarding adventure of my life is about to start.

So I'm 13 weeks pregnant, with this AMAZING news for me and my husband comes a whole lot of responsibility and new emotions.

Just a few of the questions that have spiralled through my mind on repeat:

How do I manage a business and raise a baby?

How do I progress my career and raise a baby?

I'm already so busy this is crazy, how do people do it?

I feel guilty for my business partners and staff as I'm going to need some time off at such a busy time of the business. Other voice in head - " But we're always busy and you can't put my life on hold, you're almost 30 and want a family...."

I wish men could have the babies for us waaaaaaa!

How am I going to manage my time off?

How much time do I take off?

What's a fair wage to pay myself during maternity?

I want to work but I want to bond with my baby the time is so precious.

Arghhhhh life, balance, career.

Literally every emotion and question has gone through my head and I'm certainly not wanting anyone to answer the questions, I'm simply sharing my thoughts, some too crazy to write down ha!

I constantly see on the news the gender pay gap and not enough woman being in positions of power. Falling pregnant has made me wonder, do the 7% of woman in high power roles have children?

Is it possible to raise a baby and be at the top of your game or does something have to suffer a bit of neglect.

Will it get easier in time...

I tell you what ladies, we don't half have to make some difficult decisions and have a lot to contend with.

Side note: I'm not saying men don't have pressure or worries, but at the end of the day it's us going through it with our bodies.

Apologies if this is an overshare but I have so many inspirational female business owners in my contact list. I guess I'm just wondering how you coped, if you coped or decided not to start a family because your career is so important to you, any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

As mentioned I'm buzzing, so grateful for this little blessing, in love, overwhelmed with happiness, scared, worried, nervous, every emotion possible which I know is normal. Hopefully no one will see any negativity in this post it is certainly not a moan, nor is it my intention to shame anybody's decisions in life, children, no children, career, no job, stay at home mum... amazing.... Literally NO judgement.

All love and support welcome below.

Congratulations. There are no easy answers, but advice I? would give is to try as hard as you can not to feel guilty. Whichever path you choose it will be a big temptation.

I remember those feelings so well and I can’t give you any advice on your business as I was employed as a teacher. I worried so much, especially about my exam classes and worked to the nearest half term before the birth. But after he was born he became the most important part of my life and my priorities changed completely. Try to plan for flexibility. Becoming a parent changes you in ways you might not expect. Congratulations by the way!
