Business Advice From My BBQ Grill

You know, for me one of my favorite things to do when it’s nice out is to grill up some food & enjoy a nice cold beer.
And recently while I was grilling I started to think back to when I bought the grill and what it was about this grill that made me want to buy it instead of any of the other grills for sale out there. It took a little bit of thinking, but I remembered the specific ad that I saw before purchasing it where they talked about the temperature control, and the sear-box, and how even though it was a gas grill, it still had a pellet box.
At the end of the ad, it showed the guy on the grill serve up a bunch of great plates of food to all his family and friends and because of this ultimate grill, everyone had a great experience.
But that great experience wasn’t just because some company tossed a bunch of pre-existing features on a grill, it started with an entirely new design that would supposedly revolutionize grilling, and then once they had a design the grill had to be assembled based on the schematic, with trained assembly line workers or programmed machines to make sure that each step of the design process was executed perfectly.
The end result being this ultimate grill that would create a great experience for me and my family.
And I started thinking some more about how my business, and my team are no different.
If we want to create a culture where the end goal is a great experience for everyone involved, then we have to make sure that every person and every step of the design process from the blueprint to the end-product is trained and programmed to execute perfectly every time.
Like the manufacturer of the grill in that ad, they weren’t selling me on just this perfect grill. They were selling me on the experience that came as a result of that perfectly designed grill.
Our culture is no different.
