Burnout: No time for self-care?

We all understand the importance of self-care.?It provides us with renewed perspective, energy, rejuvenation, clarity, etc.?We appreciate all the benefits of it after we've invested some time taking care of ourselves.?So, why is it so difficult for us to make time for self-care??

Ironically enough, at times, the thought of adding self-care to our routine, adds to our overwhelm.?It feels like it's just one more thing that we have to do.?There's additional pressure to make time for self-care in an already crammed schedule.?This contributes to our frustration of not being able to cope and stay on top of our day.

The second reason for not making time for self-care is that we don't see it as productive time. We convince ourselves that it is more important to start one of the numerous tasks on our "To Do" list and we don't see the time invested in self-care as progressing towards the completion of all of our tasks.?Time for self-care is considered a "nice to have" rather than a "must have", so it falls off the list.

Finally, we're used to putting ourselves last.?We view the needs of others above our own.?This is a concept that we struggle with constantly.?At times, our rationale is that if we get everything done, we'll feel justified in making the time for ourselves afterwards.?

It's time to challenge our thoughts about making the time for self-care.?It's not about one more thing we "have" to do, it's one more thing we "get" to do.?It is an investment that creates more time so that we can accomplish so much more.?When we are able to refuel, replenish and revitalize with self-care, we are our better selves to help others.?Let's make it easy for us to incorporate self-care in our schedule.?Aren't we all worth it?
