Burn the Ships!!!
I'm not sure on how familiar you are with the explorer Cortes and his adventures, but I would like to share one particular story.
When landing in Veracruz in 1519, Captain Cortes gave the order to his crew to burn the ships, their only means of retreat/swift escape from hardships. (Imagine for a second, his men and what their thoughts must have been.) There had to be grumblings and expressions of apprehension from his subordinates. Ultimately, however, his crew obeyed his commands and they were left with no choice but to succeed.
Many times, I believe we are held back from success because our ships are too easy to access and we would rather take the escape than to face the adversity. What would we achieve if success was the only option? What if we had the ability to act decisively in spite of our fear? In some situations, the option to retreat must be completely and utterly destroyed. There is a certain level of achievement that requires us to BURN THE SHIPS!!!
