Burgundy Door

Burgundy Door

A burgundy door is at the end of a hallway, detailed with intricate carvings on the wood panelling and a beautiful brass knob with a leaf ring running around the centre.

When you came near the door, you could feel a warmth coming from it. It was a strange door to many people, it would open, but there be no warmth coming behind it; only the door was warm. Those that it did fascinate eventually lost interest in it.

The door was something else that ordinary people could not sense; only people on a different plane of existence could feel that it was not a typical door.

The door was a new chance for those living in a different existence, a new opportunity, a door to a new life. The ones who sensed it knew that they could not open the door by themselves. The door would open for them when it was their time. No one knew when their time would come. It could be days, weeks or even years; when the time came, they would know.

The door would stand out at the end of the hall against the grey walls and simplistic picturesque artwork, but no one would stay in front of the door for too long except for Mia.

Mia would sit in front of the door everyday… waiting. Waiting for what, she did not know. Yet, she never felt uneasy or nervous sitting in front of the door. Repeatedly, she would sit in front of the door, speaking to no one. All day and all night, she would wait there.

She asked the door a question. “When will it be my time?”

Her face was drawn and pale, her body petite with freckles down her arms. She wore a hospital gown and pink fluffy slippers.

One day Mia found the door ajar; tears brimmed Mia’s eyes as the door opened for her; she had been waiting for her time. The brightest light shone through the door; the feeling of the light was warm, gleaming seeing it brought joy to Mia.

Mia had waited for so long and described to go inside, leading her to a new place.

Mia watched as the door slowly closed behind her, but she was not worried.

She was moved on, leaving all behind her both physically and spiritually.
