Burger King is known for its witty advertisements and Guerrilla marketing strategies. Even during the pandemic, where other brands are restraining their advertisements to even pop near the words like 'virus' or 'COVID-19' as it impacts the brand image. Burger King on the other hand is doing a complete opposite - revolving their entire marketing strategy around the 'coronavirus pandemic'
Well, it looks like Winston Churchill's favourite quote "Never let a good crisis go to waste" seems to hold true for Burger King in this case. Below is a list of Burger King's amazing advertisements and marketing strategies post the COVID-19 outbreak.
1. "work from home" - Burgers (pun intended)
With fast food restaurants closed due to COVID-19, Burger King France wants its users to make their own burgers at home. It started off the campaign with the name #QuarantineWhooper which shows a poster of neatly organised, shop-bought ingredients that fans can use to imitate Burger King’s Whopper at the comfort of their home.
2. The Social Distancing Hat!
Have you ever heard 'customers are your king and you must serve them right' well burger king took it far too seriously! With the crown shaped hats, burger king tried making their customers feel like a king and enjoy their food while following the social distancing norms.
3. The Social Distancing Burgers!
Taking the social distancing to a next level! burger king introduces a whooper with 3x the amount of raw onions, the reason will leave you gobsmacked! yes, the idea is again social distancing- customers will get bad breath after having the burger and will not come close to each other.
4. The conference - call for burgers! (pun intended again)
People are not stepping out and thus the outdoor advertising is a massive fail! yet Burger King came up with an innovative way of highlighting their billboards. They are giving out buy-one-get-one free whoopers to users if they use one of its billboards as their background during their virtual conference calls.
5. Catch the QR
Post lockdown, people are already watching a lot more TV, now they might get a burger out of it! Burger King is giving out free burgers if you are able to catch and scan the moving QR code displayed on their TV commercials.
6. LHS = RHS
Burger King is offering free burgers to students for solving a maths equation or a chemistry, biology or a literature question. The idea is to promote intelligence and keep the students indulge into studies while the schools are closed because of the pandemic.
7. Make it Burn!
The lockdown has seen many people trying their hands-on cooking for the first time, many a times the recipe turns out to be a disaster. But this time, Burger King got you covered - The brand is distributing free burgers to its users upon posting their cooking fail pictures with a funny name and tagging Burger King with the hashtag #BailMeOutBK
8. Last but not so surprising - Trolling McDonald's
Known for its ad rivalry, Burger King takes a dig at McDonald's by taking advantage of their geographical location through an outdoor advertisement promoting the message of social distancing.
The lockdown is getting extended, so does the marketing strategies of Burger King, looking forward for more such creatives!
Thank you!
