Bupa turns 75

75 years ago, in the aftermath of the Second World War, a group of health funding organisations came together united by a vision to provide both freedom of choice and high-quality, affordable healthcare in the UK. On 3 April 1947, Bupa was born.?

I’ve been reflecting on how, although many years have passed since Bupa was formed, our essence remains the same. Our founding purpose was ‘to prevent, relieve and cure sickness and ill-health of every kind’ and our purpose today has evolved to: “helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world.” It’s slightly changed over time because although we remain committed to providing healthcare for people, we also recognise that we have a broader responsibility?to the communities that we operate in, and the planet that we live on. ?

?Over these 75 years,?we have experienced incredible growth - from our origins in the UK, to a global company operating across different continents with 84,000 people, serving over 38 million customers. Along the way, we?have had to learn and adapt:?innovating our products and services and?determining how and where we want to expand. Throughout all of this, our?people have been our greatest asset, consistently brave, caring, and responsible and committed to?looking after our customers, patients and residents when they need us the most. ?

?Our ambition is to be the most customer-centric healthcare company in the world. We want to make our customers lives easier and provide a high-quality, great value healthcare service, one?they would be happy to recommend.?We know that to do this we need to keep listening to our customers, especially those who have suggestions as to how we can improve,?and we need to innovate fast to meet their evolving needs as the world around us continues to change.

I am so excited to celebrate this milestone and thank our?people for their immense dedication and commitment.?I look forward to the next 75 years! ?
