Built to Innovate: Technology Investment that Accelerates the Solutions Customers Need Now
Bob Biesterfeld
Public Company Director, Former President and Chief Executive Officer
Everyone can agree that 2020 brought upon challenges to the global supply chain like we’ve never seen before. More than ever, customers are turning to us to bring some stability at this volatile time. When you’ve been in business for more than 115 years like we have, you have the perspective and know-how to be reliable, smart and nimble, with technology solutions built by and for supply chain experts to expertly navigate the current storm.
Our success, however, is not built on accepting the status quo. It’s the exact opposite. It’s about questioning the way it’s always been done, finding better and different ways to support our customers with their complex shipping needs, when they need it most – now and into the future.
Put simply: we are built to innovate.
C.H. Robinson is a solutions company. We are the only company with the information advantage derived from the world’s largest community of 200,000 unique shippers and carriers and 18 million annual shipments. And we leverage this unmatched data to build smart solutions to navigate not just today’s challenges, but to look ahead at what else needs to change.
That’s why I’m excited about our latest customer solution, Procure IQ?, which delivers a modernized approach to buying transportation that helps large shippers cut costs and drive greater service reliability. Rather than relying on the traditional annual bidding process alone, Procure IQ leverages cutting-edge technology to offer a more advanced approach. The tool provides a personalized data visualization and analysis of a customer’s specific shipping lanes, or routes, integrated with the most comprehensive data sets in the industry, to unlock the optimal way to purchase transportation.
Procure IQ has already helped large shippers uncover that up to 60% of their routes would capture an increase in savings and/or service reliability by purchasing that transportation through this consultative approach . That’s the kind of innovation our industry needs right now. And it’s made possible by our dedication to solving our customers’ toughest supply chain challenges and transforming our industry.
One year ago, we committed to a $1 billion technology investment. Since then, we have accelerated our rate of technology enhancements. Just to name a few recent ones, we have formed a strategic alliance with Microsoft to combine the power of our global industry leading Navisphere? platform with Microsoft Azure and Azure IoT to meet the changing demands of the supply chain; we have enhanced our position as the most connected logistics platform with 19 (and counting) TMS and ERP system integrations, delivering shippers real-time rates and capacity assurance; we added new tech advancements to Freightquote by C.H. Robinson to help small business owners; and, our Robinson Labs innovation incubator continues to create the newest solutions to drive the logistics industry forward.
While the next six months may seem uncertain, I can say with confidence that we will continue to be there for our customers to provide stability in an unstable time. And we will make sure they have the best solutions and technology to make their jobs easier and get their products where they need to be.
