Regarding building your career and your future, how quickly do you want to get there?

If you were to go from Lagos to Abuja, you can go by trekking, jogging, using a bike, driving, using a night bus, using a helicopter or flying an aeroplane. While you will get to Abuja, from Lagos, using any of these vehicles, some of them will get you there wearied and after a day or two. While going by air will get you there in an hour, taking a walk will get you there after 6 days possibly, with your health and strength worn out. Some lessons to learn here.

When it comes to building your career and your future, what vehicles are you considering? I started exposing and encouraging my proteges to master tech skills while they were undergraduates since 2018. Today a number of them have become senior developers and founders of valuable tech companies within the first 3 years of starting their life's journey. To be honest, they have accomplished in 3 years what it took their preceding generations 20+ years to accomplish. Talk about vehicles. What vehicle are you using?

Tech is obviously one of the fastest vehicles to get to your destination. It is the language of the digital age. It is an enabler for enabling other sectors and industries to facilitate scalability, simplicity and democratization in order to enable availability, accessibility and affordability. These are some of the factors that make tech companies grow in value to attain the unicorn status while making their founders and investors great fortunes.

So, where do you want to play? Where do you want to start? What help or guidance do you need?

You can start mastering tech skills. Find a path that fits you and grow there. And this is not limited to engineers. There are tech skills that are not as hard core as frontend or back end development. You are a tech talent if you're great at product marketing, product management, data analysis or UI/UX design.

What you possibly need now is some level of guidance in choosing your path, equipping yourself, operating in a clique of other tech talents building a product together and getting paid well for your contributions. By these, you can consciously build your personal valuation.
