The Power of 2 Minutes - Daily Motivation #285 ( 27th March 2024)
A good job reputation isn't about working the most hours (although hard work is important!). It's about consistently delivering value and building trust. Here's how I've approached building a strong reputation over the past 20 years in the professional world.
I've faced situations where colleagues questioned my decisions. However, time has always proven me right. This is because I focus on results, not justifications.
Here are 5 key principles that have guided me:
- Collaborative Excellence: A "good job" isn't about perfection. It's about moving everyone involved forward (from A to A+). I encourage open communication, feedback, and teamwork.
- Customer-Centric Mindset: Always consider the customer's perspective. Why are they reaching out? What value can you provide them and the company?
- The Consultant Approach: Imagine you're starting a new business. You'd research the company, identify its strengths and weaknesses (SWOT analysis), and develop a solution. Apply this same approach to your work.
- Consistency and Humility: Building a good reputation requires consistent effort and a humble attitude. Always be willing to help others, even if you don't have a solution readily available. Sometimes, people just need a listening ear.
- Proactiveness and Balance: Think beyond your assigned tasks and work proactively. Strive for speed and efficiency but maintain a healthy work-life balance. Consider a lion's powerful impact combined with an elephant's steady pace.
A strong reputation builds trust and recognition. People approach me with questions like, "How do you write daily articles in just 2 hours?" This consistency, over nearly 570 hours of writing, has built my reputation. Remember, reputation is built day by day, not overnight.
