Building your job search routine
Building a routine is essential for your job search. We all know that you need to make a job out of looking for a job. It requires strategy, discipline and a routine to keep you focused, learning, optimizing your search and moving towards your goal of getting a new gig!
The original version of this was copied from someone on LinkedIn and I can’t remember who it was…if you know who wrote this, please let me know and I’ll pass on the credit! It will certainly help anyone searching for work and I have since updated and emailed this to several of my friends.
I suggest building a daily personalized version that suits you. This is a good place to start.
- Wake up/breakfast
- 30 - 60 minutes exercise/shower
- Go to a quiet space at home, public library, or any place that has wifi
- 1 hour of email and online networking
- 1 hour resume and LinkedIn profile improvement, or keyword tailoring for ATS applications
- 1 hour lunch break/network in person
- 1 hour of LinkedIn activity for visibility (like, comment, share, like comments of others in a meaningful way, post articles)
- 1 hour job search via LinkedIn Jobs, Indeed etc.
- 30 minute walk
- 1 hour of skills training and skills updates via LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, Udemy etc.
- 1 hour interview prep, research, transferable skills identification, and C.A.R.L. technique
Each of these tasks is so important and will bring value to your job search. You’ll be adding to your research, tapping into the hidden job market and letting people know you are looking for your next opportunity.
If you’ve built yourself a successful job search routine, please get in touch. I’d love to hear about it!
