Building a Village of Light

At KFC we truly love that we can partner with our customers every day to make a meaningful difference in South Africa through our incredible Add Hope non-profit partners who we work with closely to help feed underprivileged children across the country,

There are phenomenal organisations doing the most incredible work to bring hope to many communities and we are privileged to work alongside these partners to spread a little extra hope. One such partner is Lebone Village.

“Lebone” is the Sotho word for “light” and that is what Lebone Village is all about – a candle giving light in the darkness to many without hope for the future. Lebone is one of our longest standing Add Hope partners and it is clear that the Village’s journey is rooted in passion, faith and an unwavering commitment and perseverance to make a difference.

In 2000 the Lebone candle was lit. What started as a longing to make a difference by Trust Administrator, Avril Snyman, blossomed into a small group of people caring for a small group of children.

Today, Lebone Village is a large, multi-faceted non-profit care centre situated just outside Bloemfontein in the Free State. The Village provides holistic care to all vulnerable children, youth, their families, and people affected by poverty. Most of the children in their care are orphaned because of the devastating effect of HIV/AIDS and while the Lebone Village currently has five divisions that try to meet the needs of many – it is primarily committed to giving children a fighting chance at life and a secure future ensuring these children never have to go to bed hungry, much less suffer from malnutrition.

It's been a journey of more than 13 years – from seeing starving, suffering little children to watching them start smiling again, gaining weight, and filled with renewed energy to sharing in the children’s achievements over the years – a journey only made possible with the support from Add Hope.

For KFC it has been a joy to work with Avril and her team and we look forward to continuing to work together towards a common goal – giving hope to the hopeless.
