Building up in ōtautahi

In the last 12 months, construction has been booming in Canterbury, ōtautahi. Our team lead by Ross Baynes has been involved in a variety of projects, showcasing their true craftmanship over diverse builds. Due to the boom we've also welcomed Scott Burgess, Project Manager, and Joel Pomare, Concrete Cutting Specialist, to our team.

ōnuku Takapūneke Reserve

During this project we’ve worked with local Tāngata Whenua and main Contractor City Care, to develop a memorial that pays respect to the history of the area. Special Tapu rituals have been accounted for when developing this land. This includes not being able to drink on site and ensuring excavated material did not leave site.

The works comprise earthworks (cutting and filling), the construction of low retaining walls and landscape features within the upper north-eastern portion of Greens Point Reserve (Wider Takapūneke Reserve) and the installation of a pou.

• Earthworks to construct a Takarangi (koru) with pathways leading into a central area. One pathway will be sealed asphalt, and the second will be compacted lime
• Retaining walls will be constructed to retain the pathways
• Construction of a pou within the central area
• A pull in / drop off area for mobility vehicles at the entrance off Stanley Place
• An accessible path and boardwalk linking the Takarangi to a future car park
• Landscape planting.

Christchurch Foot Bridges: ōtākaro Avon River Corridor

Another high-profile project for Cantabrians, this work allows us to demonstrate our carpentry skills and our ability to work near waterways and bridges.

These bridges are significant as they enable communities to become closer after damage from the 2011 earthquake. The three walkways are placed strategically along the ōtākaro Avon River Corridor. Developed by Regenerate Christchurch, the Regeneration Plan is intended to support the regeneration of the ōtākaro Avon River Corridor, providing a vision and objectives for short, medium, and long-term future land uses and opportunities for the 602-hectare area in the heart of east Christchurch.

This project demonstrates our ability to undergo civil and building construction in Canterbury. This specification was for the carpentry package for the approach structures on the bridges along the Avon River Corridor. Some bridges are in the Red Zone and some partially in road corridors. The bridges are:

1. Medway Bridge. Adjacent to Medway Street (East) spanning towards Avonside Drive

2. Avondale Bridge. Adjacent to Briarmont Street (North) spanning towards New Brighton Road

3. Snell Bridge. Adjacent to Snell Place (South) spanning towards Avonside Drive

As subcontractor to HEB Construction, CMT Group is responsible for the supply of all plant, materials, and labour to construct access ramps at three locations along the Avon River corridor

Pines wastewater treatment plant solar drier hall

CMT Group completed this project as a subcontractor to Monadelphous. This project was split into two parts the solar drying hall and a control room (design and build by CMT Group, including architecture).

This innovative project demonstrates how well our civil team can complete tasks on time and to budget. The Pines project was not only an example of the civil and building work involved with new structures, concrete supply and placement, construction of new buildings but also waste water services and trenching. We adhered to the H&S requirements of Monadelphous. There were high risk environmental factors which were mitigated with our H&S procedures. A high level of tolerance was needed as machinery was set in place and could not be moved.
