Building Trust Together: LinkedIn introduces ID Verification feature for Indian Members

With nearly a billion members around the globe using LinkedIn to connect, seek employment, and share knowledge, we recognize the paramount significance of safety, trust, and authenticity on the platform. Therefore, we are excited to introduce the new identity verification feature for our 100M + members in India that will help build trust with your professional community.?

Having an ID verification means that the individual’s government-issued ID is verified by one of LinkedIn’s verification partners. In India, the ID verification is performed by HyperVerge, a third-party identity verification service, that leverages DigiLocker, which is a digital wallet for Government IDs in India including Aadhaar. This verification is available for those with a valid Aadhaar number and an India phone number, and will be shown on your LinkedIn profile.??

We believe verification should be for everyone on LinkedIn, that’s why this feature will be available and free to all our eligible members in India. On LinkedIn, when you show that you're the real you, you'll have an even greater chance of finding the professional opportunities that matter to you and your community.?

Here are six simple steps to V.E.R.I.F.Y. your LinkedIn profile for a safer, more authentic experience:

  • V: Visit the "About this profile" section on your LinkedIn profile and click on ‘Verify with Aadhaar’ to initiate the verification process.?
  • E: Enter your Aadhaar number on the Digilocker screen.
  • R: Receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
  • I: Instant verification by Hyperverge using DigiLocker. If you don't have a DigiLocker account, you will be signed up for it automatically.
  • F: Complete a liveness check; take a selfie to do a Face match with your Aadhaar photo.?
  • Y: Click on “Yes, Share with LinkedIn” for the verification to be added to your LinkedIn profile.

If, for any reason, your verification attempt is unsuccessful, don’t worry – you can initiate the process again, starting from step 1. If you need more help with setting this up, please refer to our? Help Centre page.

Your information?

LinkedIn does not have access to any sensitive data from your Aadhaar. LinkedIn only receives name, city (state and country), and year of birth, which is not visible to others but may be used for security purposes. LinkedIn will also not have access to the documents in your Digilocker account.?

If you don't have an Aadhaar, you can still verify other information for use on LinkedIn using different methods. You can choose to verify through your work email, or workplace credentials . If you are starting the search for a new job, verified information about a job poster or their company can help you to confidently connect with them and explore authentic opportunities. Currently available to select companies globally, these options will gradually be rolled out to more companies in India. We are working to add more verification methods.?

While the verification process on LinkedIn is voluntary, being verified could significantly enhance your credibility when engaging with other professionals and can help open doors to new opportunities. We recently launched ID verification in the US and will be rolling ID verification to other regions soon.?

Why give the steps and process for Aadhar and then " We recently launched?ID verification in the US?and will be rolling ID verification to other regions soon?" Contradictory? Is India not a priority? Ashutosh Gupta
