Building Teams That Last
Boosting attraction and retention
About a year ago, the workforce was rocked by a surge of resignations. Meanwhile, 2023 began with a wave of layoffs in the tech industry that has had workers and hiring managers wondering, what’s next for the labor shortage?
The truth is, it all depends upon your particular situation, and no one solution will solve everyone’s problem. Still, there are a couple of things you can propose to improve the status of your company for incoming candidates and employees.
Simple things like improving the hiring process will keep candidates engaged in the application process. Contacting an acquisition specialist can help filter through the most promising profiles and free up the time to find the perfect candidate for a tough-to-hire position.

Prioritizing Constructive Criticism
There is plenty of value in having one on ones with employees. Constructive criticism does not have to be nerve-wracking for anyone involved. Instead, a performance review should be a sign of effective leadership and a way to set the path for growth for everyone in an organization.
If you’re dreading an upcoming performance review, asses your notions about your work and focus on the good things. Now, remember that criticism is supposed to help you grow, and there is some discomfort to be expected in that process. Be realistic about your shortcomings and prepare to hear methods of improvement by preparing how you will make better strides moving forward.

Taking a step back from overworking
Can entire organizations prevent burnout? Can companies come back from overworking their teams? Can high performers stop overworking themselves?
Yes, of course. But there must be proper oversight and a commitment to change.
There’s a line between overworking by necessity and choice. It’s ok to do whatever’s needed for deadlines to be met and to keep a particular project on track or a client happy. However, boundaries can become blurred and temporary can become permanent if poor time management and high expectations aren’t regulated. Which can lead to burnout and all its consequences rather than an improved work ethic or promotion.
