Building Talent Pipelines from HBCUs

CVS Health has been no stranger to working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). They are part of our Social Justice & Equity commitments, and our established University Relations strategy which exposes college students to roles in?pharmacy, nursing, corporate, and retail management.?We are continuing to add more HBCUs to our recruitment activities as our programs continue to grow.?

The University Relations team engages HBCUs by connecting with undergraduate students to showcase internship and post-graduation opportunities.?This year, the University Relations team is raising awareness of the CVS Health brand and connecting with students through virtual TED Talk-style presentations that showcase how teams at the company are driving innovations in healthcare.?Participating students were invited to participate in personalized development workshops and our Corporate Externship.

I'm happy to share the story of one of our interns from last summer who has now started a full-time role this year:

Candace Drummer – Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia

Candace recently completed her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting, with a minor in Business Logistics. This June, she joined CVS Health’s Finance Leadership Development Program upon graduation.?

Candace became interested in working at CVS Health while researching internships.?She was intrigued by our innovative strategies in healthcare and joined our Corporate Finance Internship Program in June 2020.

“Healthcare has played a major role in my life, and being in a program that combined both my passion for healthcare and finance felt like the perfect opportunity for me,” she said, adding that it felt good being part of a team, and being included in the major discussions at the company.?“Even when I participated in the Inclusion and Diversity discussion panel, I felt comfortable enough to give my personal experiences without feeling as though I may be ridiculed or judged afterwards.”

For additional information, visit CVS Health's Diversity page or the Student Careers page. Applications for internships and full-time roles for Summer 2022 will be available starting August 5th, 2021.
