Building a personal swimming pool can be one of the most important and most exciting investments that you may ever have to do as this will be added to the things that are supposed to make your life happier and more relaxed. However, if you cut corners and you don’t do it right, this may become a painful exercise financially and emotionally.
For professional swimming pools, it could also lead to additional costs and to loss of revenue should it be closed for repair. Hopefully the repairs are somewhere accessible, and the water is not being contaminated from outside.
Therefore, it is important to get it right from the start.
Penetron is proudly putting forward a system that addresses the waterproofing and durability of the swimming pool designs specifically presented to Structural Engineers and swimming pool contractors.
Please refer to the steps below:
1. Design your slab and walls to a strong degree of crack control as per the AS 3600:2018 cl9.5.
2. Use the Penebar SW-55 in the concrete joints and Penetron Admix SB in the concrete mix in both the walls (Can be insitu, PVC walling systems or shotcrete) and the slab to give you the following advantages:
a. Reduces the concrete drying shrinkage between 16 and to 28% depending on the concrete mix type and strength.
b. Provides high resistance to chloride diffusion through the walls and slabs that could eventually attack your reinforcing steel and cause concrete cancer. Once the latter occurs, the tiles will delaminate, and the water will be constantly contaminated.
c. Increases the impermeability of the concrete by over 91%.
d. Provides a system that will remain dormant within your concrete for the design life of the structure, which will automatically be activated to self-heal new wet cracks that occur up to 200m head of pressure.
e. Penetron Admix has zero VOC, is non-toxic, and certified for potable water use.
f. Penetron Admix improves the durability of concrete by up to 60 years by not allowing any moisture to travel within the capillary tracts and micro-cracks of the structure.
g. Highly cost effective.
3. Using a high pressure water system at a minimum of 3500 PSI, clean both the walls and the slab to remove all the oils, release agents and alike, which in turn, slightly opens the pours to increase the bonding of the BLOCKSEAL. For the PVC walling systems, grind or prime the surface to increase the bonding of the BLOCKSEAL.
4. Apply 2 to 3 coats of BLOCKSEAL as per the TDS and leave it to cure for 7 days.
5. Install the tiles using a waterproof bonding cement.
