India's Journey to Net Zero
As a rapidly developing economy, India is making significant strides towards a cleaner and greener future. Ambitious net zero targets drive change across industries and sustainable building practices are at the forefront of this transformation. Green buildings not only reduce carbon footprints but also enhance energy efficiency, leading to lower operating costs and improved indoor environmental quality. India has set the target of achieving net zero emissions by 2070 and this necessitates significant adoption of green building practices throughout the industry at the earliest.

The Rise of the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO)
The surge in sustainability initiatives has given birth to a crucial C-Suite role: the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO). The CSO is a strategic leader responsible for embedding sustainability into an organisation's DNA. These visionaries craft sustainability strategies to define the company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) roadmap. They are the experts who drive innovation to foster the development of sustainable products, services and practices. They also manage risks, identifying and mitigating environmental and social risks within the business and its supply chain.

Why Your Organizations Need CSOs?
While some may see having a Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) as simply a symbolic gesture, the reality is that it's a strategic business decision. CSOs play a crucial role in attracting investors seeking responsible companies, identifying cost-saving opportunities through sustainable practices, enhancing brand reputation and attracting talent, and ensuring compliance with ever-evolving environmental regulations. In short, a CSO helps organizations thrive in a world increasingly focused on sustainability.
The Indian real estate sector is on the verge of a sustainable transformation driven by a confluence of powerful forces. Investor demand for green buildings, ambitious national net zero targets and the rise of the CSO are all pushing the industry towards a more sustainable future. The CSO plays a pivotal role in this transformation. By embedding sustainability into the core of their organizations, CSOs will pave the way for developing innovative, cost-effective and environmentally friendly real estate solutions.

8 个月Obtaining a LEED / IGBC certification for the project doent make much impact towards NET ZERO or decarbonization goals. It has become a tool for marketing colletral & brand building exercise merely. No one is the industry is talking about scope 1/2/3 decarb steps and actions to it. Govt policy around is not available, thus even consulting firms are at the verge of closing of such verticles. Hight time for the industry & I urge to leaders like you to speak about this concern.
Very well said , the build environment uses 40% of energy and has a huge potential to work upon energy efficiency and decarbonisation.
