Beyond the Numbers: Why Relationships Matter in Franchising

When you're in the research phase of franchising, the franchisor and you are going to interact.? This is where you're getting your primary information first, and you want to take the time to establish a good rapport with those people. The thing that they're looking for is if they can develop a relationship with you.

Relationships are extremely important in franchising, because you're going to have relationships not only with your customers and in your employees, but also with your peer owners throughout the country and with the franchisor partner as well. You might even have relationships with their suppliers and vendors too.?

How to Approach the Research Phase with a Relationship-Oriented Mindset

Relationships are hugely important and spoiler alert, you need to be good at developing them.? You're going to do well in franchising if you're good at developing relationships and have a good bedside manner.?

I think that a great way to step off with the right foot in the research process is to be relationship oriented. Think of it as like a first date. Think of me as your matchmaker. That's my job, is to make sure that you're talking with people and organizations that are going to be a good fit for you and where the raw materials are there for you to develop that great relationship.?

It's more than just the numbers. Yes, I get it. Ultimately, the numbers play a big part in determining what sort of business opportunity you should pursue, but also the relationships matter equally, if not more.?
