Building a Stronger and More Resilient Cold Chain: Lineage’s 2022 Sustainability Report

Building a Stronger and More Resilient Cold Chain: Lineage’s 2022 Sustainability Report

Dating back to the 1892 founding of the first warehouse in our network, the Lineage team has been on a journey to build a smarter, faster and more resilient food supply chain. In building what we believe is one of the world’s cleanest, most efficient cold chains, we’ve come to appreciate how our commitment to environmental stewardship, corporate citizenship, inclusion and governance will help solve some of the greatest challenges facing our customers, our communities and our industry – all in pursuit of our purpose to transform the world’s food supply chain to eliminate waste and help feed the world.

To share that progress and demonstrate our commitment to these principles – as well as our six core values of Safe, Trust, Respect, Innovation, Bold and Servant Leadership – I am so pleased to share Lineage’s first-ever Sustainability Report: lineagelogistics.com/about-us/social-impact.

The report kicks off with Lineage’s approach to sustainability, which starts with our commitment to environmental stewardship. In recognizing the impact of energy intensity and food waste on climate change, we champion efforts across the organization to reduce our impact on the planet. We joined the Climate Pledge to demonstrate our commitment to reach net-zero by 2040, developed novel and innovative energy management initiatives, and invested in renewable energy and climate-friendly refrigerants to help lessen the negative impacts of our operations on the environment.

Also highlighted in the report is the acknowledgment that building a stronger and more resilient organization starts with our team members and the culture we are building. To create a truly awesome and inclusive workplace, we’ve launched five new employee resource groups, invested in diverse recruiting efforts, tracked progress against our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) strategy and launched a renewed focus on leadership training and career development globally. We’ve come to realize that our purpose does not just live within the four-walls of a Lineage facility. The Lineage Foundation for Good has worked tirelessly since its founding to support the communities where we are operating, donating over 2.7 million pounds of product from customers, issuing almost $3 million in grants, and providing over 5,000 volunteer hours in just its first year as a public charity.

As you’ll see in the report, no one builds anything alone. We owe a debt of gratitude to many—particularly to the legacy companies who established the bedrock of who we are today, the investors who have believed in our vision for the future, and, most importantly, our team members who live our purpose every day and continue to lead the industry forward. You have challenged us and partnered with us as we reimagine the journey of food for the good of our team, our communities and our world.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, we know that Lineage, in partnership with the rest of the cold chain, has more work to do as we build towards a more sustainable, inclusive and ethical future. This report marks the first step in our commitment to share our progress and hold ourselves accountable to our bold vision for the future of the industry.

Congratulations on this important milestone, Team Lineage!
