Building Start-ups the Human Way

Some news today. In the middle of last year I established a small ‘studio’ to prototype and build start-up companies that had the potential to serve some usefulness to common social problems. ‘Aera XY’ was primarily formed around a partnership with a young man I met a few years earlier, Raul Oaida, who had built an air-powered Lego car, and sent small objects to space for almost no money, from his home country in Romania.

Raul and I prototyped several companies, and along the way met a ‘company builder’ in New York who liked what we were doing and who we liked. That company, Human Ventures and those Humans, Heather, Michael and Joe were perfect partners for what we were trying to do, so today we announced that Aera XY has been acquired by Human Ventures, and I am taking the post of Chief Innovations Officer to help accelerate our mutual company-building efforts on meaningful projects.

The full blog post is here and more will follow on what it will mean to build companies the Human way.

I’m really excited about this partnership and to be joining the Human community! Watch this space…

It's always been the human way, and it's the human outliers who help push us to understand that. Good article, thanks for posting.

Love the name! I've been advocating for the human side of building startups/scale-ups in the Amsterdam accelerator/VC landscape for a while now. Would love to get in touch sometime to talk all things human!

Congratulations - will watch with interest. Raul Oaida my 6 year old boy thinks you have incredible ideas- he loves your car and wants to work on his own (though it would look more like Batman's). My daughter is working out how to just use the wind to make it go...
