Building a Skilled and Sustainable Future for the UK
The establishment of Skills England offers a vital opportunity to address the pressing skills shortages in our nation and support economic growth. This initiative requires a concerted effort from the government, educational institutions, political leaders, and international markets to develop a skilled workforce capable of meeting future challenges.
We call on all stakeholders to collaborate and pool their expertise and resources. As part of this effort, we propose reassessing the automatic right to indefinite leave to remain by extending the qualifying period from 5 to 10 years. This change will help better manage long-term immigration and align it with the UK's labour market needs. Additionally, reintroducing the shortage occupation list and the Resident Labour Market Test will ensure that employment opportunities are prioritised for UK residents while still allowing businesses to address immediate skill gaps.
This call to action is not merely about managing immigration but about investing in our future. Skills England aims to provide strategic oversight of the skills system, align training with economic needs, and support local economies. We can build a more self-sufficient, adaptable, and resilient UK workforce by focusing on these areas.
Together, we can create a brighter future for our nation, where every individual can thrive in a well-supported and strategically planned skill environment. Join us in supporting this vision for a skilled and?sustainable?UK.
