Building safe energy solutions for electric mobility in India
Much recently the videos of electric two wheeler in flames spread like wildfire across news channels and social media building a sense of insecurity towards electric vehicle purchase among the audience following with government to step in and conduct an in-depth investigation into these incidents.
These occurrences have brought out concerns of the usage of low-quality battery cells, inefficient thermal management systems, faulty design and manufacturing practices, and incorrect usage by consumers. Although the latter can be largely alleviated with consumer education efforts, the former aspects will be addressed primarily through regulatory mandates as prescribed by the appropriate government bodies.
In the final draft of the AIS-156 norms, the government has proposed several tests that all EVs in the L category as specified by the CMVR – Mopeds, Motorcycles, Motor Tricycles and Quadricycles - sold in India must comply with.
In order to gain this proposed certification, these EVs must pass an assortment of rigorous tests, some of which include checking for protection against direct contacts of parts under voltage, adequate isolation resistance, hydrogen emissions, and those that validate the robustness of components against vibrations, mechanical impacts, thermal shock and resistance to water and fire. We hope that these norms will evolve symbiotically with electric mobility technologies and will not stem innovation and development.
Speaking about innovation and development, we at SUN Mobility have taken our battery swapping solutions above and beyond the industry norm of meeting all current government mandated specifications.?

Our batteries have featured thermal management systems from the get-go, efficiently monitoring cell temperatures to prevent thermal runaway from occurring while the unit is in the vehicle.
The SUN Mobility batteries themselves have been designed to be robust enough to withstand the rigors of India’s operating conditions, and only the best materials, engineering and testing processes go into their manufacture.
At all SUN Mobility battery swapping stations, in addition to monitoring the internal temperatures of the batteries that are placed in their respective docks, active cooling systems are employed to bring down cell temperatures if spikes are detected. Thus, when our customers roll up to any one of our stations to swap the batteries in their vehicles, they are assured of a fully charged battery that is completely safe for use.
These innovative, proprietary technologies, in addition to our strong commitment to user safety and utmost dedication towards growing electric mobility across the country and beyond, are the reasons why vehicles powered by our battery swapping solutions have covered over 40 million kilometers showcasing a positive remark to the future of safe electric mobility.
