AI has moved from curiosity to a necessity. It is no longer a side hustle of IT departments within organizations—it’s a board-level agenda. This means AI will become ubiquitous in all walks of life. When discussing aspects of responsible AI, the environmental impact of AI proliferation must be considered.
Did you know that the GPT 3.5 Model consumed 700,000 liters (185,000 gallons) of water to train, while the average human consumes 50,000 liters (13,000 gallons) a year? So, a single AI Model consumed 14 human beings' annual water consumption.
AI?energy consumption doubles every 100 days,?requiring us to ensure that we have designed our AI systems?optimally. I worked on this LinkedIn for Learning course summarizing the best practices for reducing AI energy emissions and cost.
You can take the course using the link below. Let me know what you think!
Many thanks to Natalie Pao , Christen Beck , and Charles (Max) Wong for all the support during the production of this course.
