The wind of change is blowing across all spheres of women’s economic empowerment. Every woman allure for change and whatever empowerment being achieved, change is the only constant thing in our world.
However, one question that I always deliberate on is the fact that even though a huge percentage of women yearns for equity and equality in all aspect of our lives. How many of us are daring enough to take those thought provoking, demeaning and painful steps to break the glass ceiling not only for our selfish recognition by the world but also for other women to work through that glass ceiling and have an empowered life.
The sustainable development goals increasingly call for the empowerment of women in the development agenda. Do we as women just want to be involved in those development agenda in order to satisfy our inner conscience and self-seeking desire that we have accomplished what the world wants? –( a world seeking equal economic opportunities) or do we really as women want to come out of our shadows and prove that women does not only deserve to be the voices that wants to be heard but we rather want to be a part of the changes we are yearning to see.
I have high hopes for women right across the globe more especially us African women because we battle toughly with the prevalence of inequality.
To succeed in our strive in achieving human dignity for every woman, this generation of women’s leadership should go beyond fighting to take not only the forefront of decision making but rather be at the forefront in taking actions to empower other women that will make an impact in exposing their potentials.
I want to commend successive women pioneer leaders for their hard work in fighting for women’s rights and justice. For women’s economic empowerment to be sustainable this generation of women leaders across the globe can accomplish more if we can build strong networks, collaborate and work as a team so together we can build a resilient fempire.
Yes, we can make every woman self-reliant when we share our fire with each other and pull up one another. The Sustainable development goals have given us the voice and all we need is an effective, meaningful network to enhance the dignity of every woman.
