Life takes many twists and turns. Are you proactively ready?
Successful military leaders know that no plan survives the first shot of battle. Similarly, in life, no matter how much you plan, adjustments always need to be made. But the beauty of planning is that when you need to adjust, it’s easier.
As Alumni President of one of Australia's most successful business schools, I see many people from many sectors, industries and roles. Yet often, something changes and their planned career is turned on its head. Adjustments are needed for many reasons such as injury, health, family priorities, motivation, burnout, relocation, redundancy, discrimination, competitiveness, etc …
With your career plan:
- Have you thought outside the square or just do what everybody does?
- Will your current plans always be fit for purpose or do you think your needs might change?
- Are you prepared for the unexpected or will you need to start over?
At the QUT Business School Alumni, we have put together expert authorities on different perspectives on careers and present them for your cognitive indulgent delight. This last event for the year is about “Building a Resilient Career” with a total of ten speakers from the following four categories:
- Managers / leaders / operational executives
- Directors / committees / governance boards
- Self Employed / consulting / coaching / mentoring / speaking / authoring / interim work
- Personal marketing / resume / networking
We will also have display stands being manned by recruitment agencies – ready to help.
Enjoy the challenge of putting your career ahead of the curve.
I know this will appeal to many of you and I’m excited to hear the many aha moments that project your career beyond the next job. As I’ve told those I’ve taught to drive, if you don’t want to crash, you need to look beyond the boot of the car in front of you – look several cars ahead. Same with careers.
The event in Brisbane is on the evening of 14 November and the limited seating is open to the public on a first come, first serve basis. Comment below if you wish further details on registration.
Well Ian, I can attest that you were personally responsible in 1979 or me being more resilient.
