Adaptability is the ability to learn flexibly & efficiently and to apply that knowledge across situations. Why is adaptability associated with chameleons? As you know, chameleons have the ability to change the color of their skin (mimicry). This means that chameleons are capable of easily adapting to their environment. But, are we also capable of adapting easily like chameleons?
To answer this question, I will share my experience during the Bangkit Academy led by Google, Tokopedia, Gojek, & Traveloka program by applying the 5 ways of adaptability, which are Interacting, Achieving, Learning, Working, Thinking. By applying these ways of adaptability, I have been able to face challenges and adapt to various situations.
So, are you curious? Let's check it out!
1. Ways of Interacting
During my time at Bangkit, I learned a great deal about adapting to interactions with others, particularly during classes with instructors where english was used exclusively. This was a new experience for me, and I also encountered differences in language and cultural expressions due to the fact that we all hail from different regions in Indonesia. As our interactions were mostly online, it was difficult to get to know each other's personalities. To overcome these challenges, I made a point of initiating interactions with my peers, mentors, and instructors through Discord or Linkedin. I also asked for help when I needed clarification on the course material. By doing so, I was able to improve my relationships with them and expand my network, even though we were unable to meet in person.
2. Ways of Achieving
Of course, I have set goals for myself in participating in the Bangkit program. As a machine learning student, my ambition is to achieve the Tensorflow Developer Certification and gain advanced skills in the field of machine learning by the end of the program. Additionally, my capstone project team also aspire to be among the top 10 projects in the program. To achieve these goals, I must complete all milestones and follow the learning path diligently. I also need to maintain a high level of motivation by having a strong sense of purpose and group norms.
3. Ways of Learning
I always strive to explore my potential so that I can develop myself and become better every day through continuous learning. During my time in Bangkit, I learned many new skills in the field of machine learning that I had never encountered before. Moreover, I have also consulted with my mentor regarding ideas for the capstone project and other topics. In addition, I have been actively participating in other activities aside from Bangkit, such as joining data bootcamps to expand my portfolio. By doing so, I aim to enhance my knowledge and skills in various areas, which I believe will be beneficial for my personal and professional growth.

4. Ways of Working
I have gained insight into the company culture, which emphasizes mandatory weekly consultations, as well as participation in ILT soft skill or machine learning sessions, with active students being rewarded with points redeemable for various perks. Moreover, Bangkit students are advised to dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per day to do courses on Coursera, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. To fulfill these requirements, I maintain a daily to-do list in Google Calendar and personal notes for utilizing effective time management strategies to optimize my working hours.
5. Ways of Thinking
At the beginning of my Bangkit journey, I had a dominant fixed mindset compared to a growth mindset. However, after attending the ILT-SS-01 session: Growth Mindset and The Power of Feedback, I began to shift my perspective towards a growth mindset. This was motivated by my desire to step out of my comfort zone and push myself towards achieving my future goals. I started to let go of unproductive habits such as playing games and engaging in other activities that did not add value to my personal development. By doing so, I was able to transform myself into a person who is continually evolving and learning new things that enhance my personal value.
Conclusion
In conclusion, building resilience through the 5 ways of adaptability is essential for facing challenges and adapting to various situations. By applying these ways of adaptability, we can improve our skills in interacting with others, achieving our goals, learning new things, working effectively, and shifting our mindset towards growth. Through my experience in Bangkit, I have learned how to apply these ways of adaptability to become more resilient and adaptable, both personally and professionally. It is important to remember that adaptability is a skill that can be learned and developed, just like any other skill.
