Building Resilience and Equality: GEEQ Book Club

Building Resilience and Equality: GEEQ Book Club

In the fast-paced world of professional development, the pursuit of knowledge is a never-ending journey. While many turn to conferences, workshops, and online courses to sharpen their skills, one often overlooked yet profoundly beneficial avenue for growth is reading books and participating in book clubs. Beyond mere entertainment, engaging with literature and joining book clubs can significantly contribute to professional success in various ways.

Books offer a diverse array of perspectives, allowing professionals to gain insights into different industries, cultures, and ideologies. By exploring varied viewpoints, individuals can broaden their horizons, foster continuous learning, improve communication skills, and increase the chances of building relationships and networks. Additionally, engaging with literature cultivates empathy and emotional intelligence, essential qualities for effective leadership and teamwork.

At GEEQ, we believe in the power of reading books and attending book clubs to foster personal and professional growth. We team up with various sponsors and companies to make books accessible to everyone, regardless of financial constraints. Our book clubs are inclusive spaces where engaging conversations benefit both those who have read the book and those who haven't had the opportunity.

Our GEEQ Book Club

In October 2023, GEEQ teamed up with Ernst & Young (EY) to host a book club centered around "The Resilience Project" by Hugh van Cuylenburg. This thought-provoking book explores the pillars of gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness and their transformative effects on individuals' lives, particularly in navigating career challenges.

Gratitude, as highlighted in the book, serves as a catalyst for success by fostering a positive mindset and resilience, especially in the face of workplace biases and challenges. Empathy, another core pillar, is essential for inclusive leadership and building supportive work environments where everyone can thrive. Mindfulness, the third pillar, enables individuals to manage stress, make better decisions, and maintain work-life balance.

The discussions sparked by "The Resilience Project" not only provided valuable insights for personal development but also highlighted the importance of collective action in promoting gender equality and equity. While individual resilience is crucial, societal change requires collaborative efforts.

Stay tuned for future book club events hosted by GEEQ. Together, we can continue to promote resilience, equality, and personal growth in the professional sphere and beyond.
