Building Reserves: Make Space for Reflection
As I was preparing to write this post, I found this great quote:
“Take time to reflect in order to learn, grow, adapt and make changes in moving forward.” ― Akiroq Brost
This month we’re focusing on building reserves, not just money, but in your life. Just as it is important to have financial reserves, successful people have reserves of other things – energy, time, space, power, sleep…
Brost’s quote hit home with me because some of my clients are so busy achieving that many times they miss the opportunity to reflect. They miss quiet time, or “thinking time.” They do rather than think or plan. They miss the big picture.
What about you?
Do you MAKE space for reflection? Or allow reflection to happen?
Here are some thoughts:
- Take a walk by yourself, without turning on your iPod
- Spend a few extra minutes in the shower
- Take a drive on a quiet back road – no radio
- Watch a sunset or sunrise
- Relax, and breathe!
You don’t necessarily need to PLAN to reflect, but if you make space for it, you’ll be surprised at your discoveries!
What other ways have you made space for reflection?

Amazing post. I think this is why vacation is so important. I mean a REAL vacation where you don't check email or call into the office. It frees your mind and unleashes your creativity. Trust me, the world will keep spinning without you.
