One of the resources I keep my eye on each year is the Edelman Trust Barometer.?

The annual study focuses on ‘what builds trust’ for stakeholders when it comes to government, NGO’s, media, and business.

Their findings help us to determine how consumers view and build trust with a brand prior to purchase, what we can do in order to build trust, and what we must avoid.??

Change is in the air.?

In fact, Edelman Trust Barometer 2023 theme (titled ‘The Collapse of the Purchase Funnel’) has identified some significant changes in consumer behaviour, which will impact how we continue to build and nurture relationships with prospective customers.?

The wonderful news is that everything we at Industry Thought Leader Academy and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast Network continue to share about how to go from invisible to influential trusted authority is still not only relevant but crucial in 2024.??

Here’s why (based on Edelman’s findings):??

  • Seventy-one percent of people say it’s more important to trust a brand they buy from/use than in the past;??

  • Consumers are far more skeptical and are taking longer to make a purchase decision, and 58% of people are doing more research;?
  • When engaging with brands, consumers are monitoring a brand’s interaction to determine their competence (70%), how ethical they are (60%), and their relevance (59%);??
  • Consumers confirmed that authenticity and relevance was important and that many brands they engaged with were NOT authentic or relevant. In fact, 51% of people said brand interactions were uninteresting, inauthentic, and out of touch.??

So, when it comes to building and nurturing relationships with prospective customers it’s vital you continue to demonstrate competence and relevance in the content you share.??

Of equal importance is how you share your content, with authenticity being key. Therefore, being clear on your core values and your unique and uncopyable brand and what you stand for is even more important this year!??

According to Edelman Trust Barometer, consumers are far more sceptical when it comes to information they see/read on line. Be careful you don't fall into the inauthentic category with how you show up.

According to Edelman Trust Barometer: 71% of people say it’s more important to trust a brand they buy/use than in the past. Are you aware of what 'trust' constitutes? And, are you incorporating this into the content and insights you share?
