Building in Public – A Journey of Growth and Reflection
It's time for a #buildinpublic update! I haven't shared one in a few weeks, so here’s a glimpse into our recent journey.
The Challenge and Triumph
Four days before the end of May, we were at just 75% of our budget. But in the last three days, we closed five projects and ended the month at 149% of our budget. It’s been an incredible year so far, as shown by our sales and budget figures.
Was it luck? Not at all. (there's always luck, but... you know what I mean)
In May, I had 65 sales calls, and in April, 67.
We have half a million dollars in sent proposals. If we could only convert 70% of'em...
Reflecting on Our Positioning
Despite our growth, we need to refine our positioning. We're not closing as many leads as we did two years ago. Our website copy needs improvement to ensure it resonates with our ideal clients (ICP) and discourages those who are not a fit from booking calls. We're getting too many leads who need quick fixes and have very low budgets. We need our copy to be aligned with our best projects.
We've learned that we're VERY good at helping our clients come up with the best ideas/direction of where their project should go. Our design, product and dev team are a killer combo, and we need to highlight that more, vs just positioning ourselves as a no/low code dev shop.

Our project pipeline is robust. We’ve also figured out how to sell maintenance and support services for our growing client base. This isn’t huge yet, but it helps cover part of our payroll and expenses.

Team Growth and Development
We've been collaborating with a designer on a contractor basis, and we finally made her a full-time offer. This approach—hiring contractors for a few projects before bringing them on full-time—has proven effective.
Additionally, we conducted performance reviews and recognized the need for more frequent feedback loops. This will foster growth for both our leadership and team members.
Our motto this quarter is "only A players."

End of Q2 looks good. My goal this month is to be able to work on our site (design-wise and copy-wise), refine our ICP's, and work on some high level stuff regarding FlutterFlow , since we're growing fast with our FF services.
