Building psychological safety requires ending gender-based violence in healthcare
Dear Menders,
Healthcare workplaces are not immune from “the society-wide social norms and cultural beliefs that justify, excuse, or facilitate violence [and discrimination] against women (UN Women: Virtual Knowledge Center to End Violence Against Women & Girls)."
I picked up Anita Hill's book, Believing, hoping it would be the primer I needed on gender-based violence and IPV. I was not disappointed.
Believing explores the root causes of gender-based violence in the US. And while I'm only a few chapters in, it's already on my must-read list. It is beginning to influence how I think about psychological safety and addressing burnout in healthcare.
Read it yourself or check out the Menders blog for my thoughts on why gender-based violence is relevant to our healthcare staffing crisis.
