Building A Portfolio of Prospects

Most people, when they think about marketing, see it as an expense... so they want an immediate return. Which means when they run adverts on Facebook for example, they want to make money or at least break even.?

This is the wrong way of approaching marketing. It is founded in a scarcity mindset.?

There is a much better way to look at marketing. Marketing is about relationships and is an investment in the longevity and lifeblood of your firm.?

The money and time you put into building a tribe now, will reap rewards and help you grow your portfolio of prospects. As you grow a portfolio of prospects you will have an audience that are at different stages in the buyer's journey.?

Some will need your help and want to buy immediately. Others might need your help in a few months, and some might take a couple of years to need your help.?

I was running a Q&A call for my Momentum clients last night and one of my students shared how true the buyer's journey is for them. For 4 months they have been building a portfolio of prospects.?

To start with it was hard to get sales calls booked in the diary, it seemed slow and laborious work. Now he is getting regular sales calls, a few a week. His investment in building a portfolio of prospects is paying off. The compound effect has kicked in.?

The difference between those firms who reap the rewards of marketing and sales vs those who don’t value it all, comes down to mindset.?

A growth mindset, one which places trust in the process and knows the law of cause and effect (if you are more visible to your ideal client <cause> you are more likely to get their business <effect> ) will win you clients.?

A fixed mindset (I will keep on relying on referrals <passive> and hope <little effect> I get sales calls booked in the diary) will do little to change your current situation.?

Whilst I can’t make accounting firms see the necessity of marketing I can highlight the benefit of it. It is imperative that firms take ACTION when it comes to client generation. Being passive and relying on referrals just won’t give the growth or sales consistency that is required to be a leading accounting firm in 2020.
