Building personal and career development of volunteers

1.????? Define the purpose, type, duration and the scope of service your organization need from the volunteers ;

2.????? Learn how volunteers in your location are serving in line with the type of service you need from volunteers ;

3.????? ?Understand the capacities and interest of the volunteers;

4.????? Ask the volunteers why they are volunteering and their experience on voluntary service, what they expect from the organization using voluntary service; ?

5.????? Orient the volunteers to your organization vision, mission, values, services, geographical areas, facilities, ?performance, your experience in using voluntary service and code of conduct expected from its staff, partners and volunteers;

6.????? Make clear the rights and duties of the volunteers when serving in your organization;

7.????? Make clear the volunteers are different from staff and ensure the volunteers understood the difference between volunteering and serving as staff in the scope of the work responsibilities, duties and accountability;

8.????? Negotiate with the volunteers and be sure the volunteers have understood your organization policy within which she/he volunteer, what he/she will do when volunteering, his/rights and obligation;

9.????? Sign agreement on specific duties, defined scope of work and time frame? when the volunteer is serving;

10.? Provide vocational and life skills and sensitization on which the volunteers effectively manage the work assigned to them within the framework of your organization policy, program and laws governing your organization;

11.? Assign clean duties to the? volunteers and inform his/her performance measured and its purpose different from staff;

12.? ???Link the volunteer to his/ her supervisor, staff and the team with whom she/he is going to serve;

13.? Ling the volunteer to his/her coachers, mentors and the staff providing logistics and facilities;

14.? Ling the volunteers with whom she works out of offices in case there is community/client outreach and field work;

15.? Provide facilities and resources the volunteer is using to use when serving your organization;

16.? Regularly support and ensure the volunteer is not marginalized or neglect, equally treated and fully enjoyed human rights;

17.? Ensure the performance and contribution of the volunteer is recognized, appreciated and fairly and equally valued;

18.? Protect the volunteer from abuse, maltreatment, neglect and ensure he/she has enjoyed her/his human right;

19.? Give especial attention in case the volunteers are women, people with impairment and migrants, indigenous or marginalized group, ensure they are protected and enjoyed their rights; ?

20.? Understand and ensure the volunteer is getting empowered, he/she got skills, knowledge and competency ?towards personal and career development.
