I’m obsessive about my branding, and you should be, too.
If you’re using the branding provided by your company, you’re on the slow path to career suicide. With the rise of technology and automation, it’s now more important than ever to increase your digital footprint and care for it immensely. Build your brand and nurture it.
First things first, you must understand yourself. The beginning of a new year is a fabulous time to do a bit of soul-searching. Dig in and ask yourself some questions. And, ultimately, don’t pander to the masses. Run towards your tribe.
As you begin to grasp who you are and who your tribe is, get really good. It’s all in the details here. Details are what will separate you from the others. Pay close attention to your fonts, your vibe, your colors. Work hard. Stay consistent. And keep this in mind: you’re going to be crappy at first. Give it 6-12 months… you can’t get good without practice.
When you’re creating content, focus on giving it all away. Why? Two huge reasons: the universe rewards it, and the art of sales is never to sell. Give away your trade secrets, your knowledge, and your time.
You will inevitably run into some hiccups and roadblocks as you learn and grow in building a personal brand. Work through them. Not knowing how to do something is an invalid reason to stop. You can learn anything you’ve ever wanted to know by going on bloody YouTube.
Watch others. Pay attention. As you spend time online, ask yourself what you like and dislike about certain brands. This will help you develop your own aesthetic that is unique and recognizable.
