Building opportunities for young people
As a former RYLA (Rotary Young Leadership Awards) camp attendee and Mearns Academy pupil, it was a great honour to present to the S5 & S6 pupils at the Academy this morning and help two lucky pupils be enrolled to the fantastic 2020 RYLA course, which I benefited from as a 17 year old. (how many years ago!!??)
I am convinced that having the RYLA experience at such a young age, both at Abernethy and then later when representing Scottish Rotary at the inaugural camp in Wales, built my confidence and enabled me to differentiate myself in Personal Statements for further education and job applications.
Watching the two recent attendees confidently present their experiences from July 2019 to around 100 of their classmates and teachers in a large lecture hall setting was a lovely moment and they should be very proud of themselves. Well done!
